Personal Statement

I believe that there is always hope for a family when there is the will to change. I am passionate about working with children, parents, and families, helping them to overcome the many challenges life brings. I like to equip families with resources that can facilitate a lifelong transformation. I value honest communication, interpersonal warmth, and have a direct approach when working with my clients.

Who I Serve

I help kids from 0-18, families, and couples to address conflict, depression, anxiety, behavioral challenges, abuse, anger, sexual abuse, trauma, divorce, and significant life changes.

I also work well with blended families. As a stepdaughter and a stepmother, I understand well the difficulties that blended families can face as well as families with different cultures.

In addition to English, I speak Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish. I work with immigrants who can speak these languages. I understand how hard it can be moving to a different country with a different culture, and have kids that are born and raised here.

Approach

I am trained in Marriage and Family Therapy, and see the value of understanding individuals within the context of their families and communities. Healing broken relationships between members of the family is focus of mine, and have sought specialized training to build my skills in this area including: Theraplay® (for younger kids and their parents), Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Gottman Method. I also make use of various forms of play therapy, and continue to receive supervision to build my skills with children.

Experience

I served in Brazil and Thailand as a Teacher and Mentor to children, teens, youth, and adults. I have worked with children, couples, and families with a variety of issues such as family conflict, ADHD, anger management, depression, anxiety, bipolar, OCD, and so on. Mentoring and caring for children and their families has been a life project for me.
